The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
