The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked round; 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Scorching the skin. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
