The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 thy robes purify 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
