The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
