The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
