The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
