The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
