The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
