The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
