Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Mim. 1 By the Clear Book. 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 He is the Lord of heaven and earth and all that is between them, if only you would really believe, 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 WAIT, THEN, for the Day when the skies shall bring forth a pall of smoke which will make obvious [the approach of the Last Hour,] 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ Indeed before that We subjected the Pharaonites to the same test. A noble Messenger came to them 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
