I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 a warning to humans, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every soul is mortgaged for its own deeds. 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 we fed not the needy, 44 We indulged and persisted in useless disputes, 45 "And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 as if they were startled asses 50 running away from a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 No indeed; the truth is that they have no fear of the Hereafter. 53 There is no doubt that the Quran is a guide. 54 Let him who will take heed: 55 And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness. 56
