Nay! By the moon 32 and the night when it retreats 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Verily, that [hell-fire] is Indeed one of the great [forewarnings] 35 a warning to humans, 36 alike to every one of you, who want to go forward or hang back. 37 Every soul is pledged to what it does, 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 and we did not feed the needy. 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 So, the intercession of intercessors will not avail them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were asses taking fright 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 But they will not remember except as God wills: He is worthy to be feared, and He is worthy of forgiving 56
