NAY, but consider the moon! 32 And the night when it departs, 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions] 35 Warn the men. 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 Save the fellows of the right. 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 Of evil-doers: 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 and belied the Day of Recompense 46 Till death overtook us. 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 No! But they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Never so, as this is a reminder. 54 So whosoever will may heed. 55 But none will keep it in remembrance except as Allah wills: He is the Lord of Righteousness, and the Lord of Forgiveness. 56
