I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 hell is certainly the greatest calamity. 35 A warning unto humankind 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul will be in captivity for its deeds 38 Except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens; they shall be asking, 40 about the guilty ones: 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 until the Inevitable End [death] overtook us." 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah). 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 so whoever wills shall remember it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
