Nay, and by the moon, 32 And by the Night as it retreateth, 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 As a warning unto men, 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 who in their gardens will be enquiring 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 "What led you into Hell Fire?" 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 "Nor were we of those who fed the indigent; 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 and we cried lies to the Day of Doom, 46 till the Certain came to us.' -- 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 What is then the matter with them, that they turn away from the admonition 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 No indeed; the truth is that they have no fear of the Hereafter. 53 No indeed; surely it is a Reminder; 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 And what advice will they heed, except if Allah wills? Only He deserves to be feared, and His only is the greatness of forgiving. 56
