Nay! By the moon 32 by the retreating night, 33 and the morning when it appears, 34 Surely, it is one of the gravest things, 35 As a warning to humanity - 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul will be (held) in pledge for its deeds. 38 Except those on the right side. 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 Of evil-doers: 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 Then there will not profit them intercesion of the interceders. 48 Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 fleeing before a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 But they [who do not believe in the life to come] will not take it to heart unless God so wills: [for] He is the Fount of all God-consciousness, and the Fount of all forgiveness. 56
