I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 by the retreating night, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Verily it is one of the greatest woes. 35 it is a warning to man, 36 to everyone of you, whether he chooses to come forward or to hang back! 37 Every soul shall be pledged for what it has earned, 38 Except the companions of the right, 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 about the sinners. 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 And rejected the Day of Judgement as a lie 46 until death approached us". 47 The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 As if they were startled donkeys – 50 fleeing -- before a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay; this is an Exhortation. 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
