The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 We surely showed him the way that he may either be grateful or deny. 3 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire. 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 They perform (their) vows, and they fear a Day whose evil flies far and wide. 7 And they feed with food, for love of Him, the needy, and the orphan and the captive. 8 We only feed you for Allah's sake; we desire from you neither reward nor thanks: 9 "Verily, We fear from our Lord a Day, hard and distressful, that will make the faces look horrible (from extreme dislikeness to it)." 10 So Allah saved them from the evil of that day, and gave them freshness and joy. 11 and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver, and goblets of crystal, 15 Also there will be crystal clear goblets of silver containing the exact measure of drink which they desire. 16 And they will be given to drink a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of ginger 17 A spring there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them shall go youths never altering in age; when you see them you will think them to be scattered pearls. 19 When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. 20 Upon them will be green Garments of fine silk and heavy brocade, and they will be adorned with Bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give to them to drink of a Wine Pure and Holy. 21 Verily this is for you by way of recompense, and your endeavour hath been accepted. 22
