The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder, 1 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man, you have to strive and go on striving towards your Lord, then will you meet Him. 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And [by] the night and what it envelops 17 And the moon when it grows full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And when the Qur'an is recited to them do not bow in adoration? ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves. 23 So give them good tidings of a painful chastisement, 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
