The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
HAS THERE [not] been an endless span of time before man [appeared - a time] when he was not yet a thing to be thought of? 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains, fetters, and a Blaze. 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 they who keep their vows and fear a Day whose evil is spread; 7 they give food, despite their love for it, to the poor and orphans and captives, 8 saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. 9 Truly, we fear from our Lord a woefully grim Day." 10 So God has guarded them from the evil of that day, and has procured them radiancy and gladness, 11 and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 And close upon them will be the shades thereof, and low will hang the clusters thereof greatly. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 Glass made from silver, which the servers have filled up to the measure. 16 And they will be given to drink there of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Zanjabil,- 17 From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; 19 When you look around, you will see delights and great dominion. 20 On their bodies will be garments of the finest green silk and brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver; and their Lord will give them a purest draught to drink. 21 "Verily this is a Reward for you, and your Endeavour is accepted and recognised." 22
