The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends). 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely Ours is it to show the way, 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I have warned you then about a raging Fire: 14 [the fire] which none shall have to endure but that most hapless wretch 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 He verily will be content. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
