The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Has there not been over man a period of time, when he was nothing to be mentioned? 1 We have created the human from a (sperm) drop, a mixture, testing him; We made him to hear and see. 2 We have indeed shown him the way – whether he is grateful or ingrate. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 [whereas,] behold, the truly virtuous shall drink from a cup flavoured with the calyx of sweet-smelling flowers: 5 This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. 6 They fulfil their vows, and fear a day whose evil is upon the wing; 7 And they feed, for the love of Allah, the indigent, the orphan, and the captive,- 8 (saying): 'We feed you only desirous of the Face of Allah; we seek of you neither recompense nor thanks, 9 We fear the dismal day calamitous from our Lord." 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 There they will recline on elevated couches and will be subjected neither to the burning heat of the sun nor to bitter cold. 13 And close down upon them (shall be) its shadows, and its fruits shall be made near (to them), being easy to reach. 14 and there shall be passed around them vessels of silver and goblets of crystal, 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver: they will determine the measure thereof (according to their wishes). 16 And they shall be given to drink from a cup whose mixture is ginger, 17 (Of) a fountain therein which is named Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 And when you see there, you shall see blessings and a great kingdom. 20 In it they adorn clothes of fine green silk and gold embroidery; and they are given silver bracelets to wear; and their Lord gave them pure wine to drink. 21 'See, this is your recompense, your striving is thanked' 22
