The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Was there a period of time when man was not even worthy of a mention? 1 Verily We! We created man from a sperm of mixtures, that We might prove him, wherefore We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Verily We! We shewed him the way; then he becometh either thankful or ingrate. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire. 4 Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor 5 a source [of bliss] whereof God's servants shall drink, seeing it flow in a flow abundant. 6 They [are those who] fulfill [their] vows and fear a Day whose evil will be widespread. 7 those who, for the love of Him, feed the needy, and the orphan, and the captive, 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 for we fear from our Lord a frowning day, inauspicious. 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 And reward them for their perseverence Paradise and silken robes, 12 There they will recline on elevated couches and will be subjected neither to the burning heat of the sun nor to bitter cold. 13 The shadows will bend over them, and low will hang the clusters of grapes. 14 And they will be waited upon with vessels of silver and goblets that will [seem to] be crystal 15 And crystal clear bottles of silver, of which they will determine the measure themselves. 16 There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil, 17 Which is a spring in Paradise called Salsabeel. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall surround them, waiting upon them; when you see them, you would think they are scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. 20 They [i.e., the virtuous] shall be attired in garments of fine green silk and rich brocade and will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure wine to drink. 21 "This in truth is your recompense, and acceptance of your endeavours." 22
