Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Travailing, worn. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 no food for them but cactus thorn 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whosoever will turn back and disbelieve 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
