The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Bethinkest thou, if he belieth and turneth away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 No indeed; if he does not desist, We shall drag him by the forelock; 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We, will call the Zabania (the harsh angels of Hell). 18 Nay! (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him))! Do not obey him (Abu Jahl). Fall prostrate and draw near to Allah! ۩ 19
