The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Surely there hath come upon man a space of time when he was not a thing worth mentioning. 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. 3 Surely We have prepared for the unbelievers chains and shackles and a burning fire. 4 The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. 5 From a fountain whence the bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to gush abundantly. 6 The servants of God fulfill their vows and are afraid of the day in which there will be widespread terror. 7 They feed the destitute, orphans, and captives for the love of God, saying, 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 "We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 For their patience, He will reward them with Paradise and silk. 12 [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. 13 Near them shall be its shades with its clusters hung gently down, 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 and gleaming silver goblets which have been filled to the exact measure, 16 And they shall be made to drink therein a cup the admixture of which shall be ginger, 17 From a fountain therein, named Salsabil. 18 ۞ And boys of everlasting youth will go about attending them. Looking at them you would think that they were pearls dispersed. 19 And when you look there (in Paradise), you will see a delight (that cannot be imagined), and a great dominion. 20 Upon those [blest] will be garments of green silk and brocade; and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. And their Sustainer will them to drink of a drink most pure. 21 (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." 22
