The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and We made the day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Behold, Gehenna has become an ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
