The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, but they will come to know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 And made the night a cover. 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 Have We not made seven strong heavens above you, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
