The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And made the day as a means of subsistence? 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Surely a time is fixed for the Day of Judgement. 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Truly, Hell is a place of ambush, 21 The rebels' abode, 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They will not taste therein cool or any drink. 24 except boiling water and pus 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
