The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 It is a Day whereon the trumpet will be blown, and ye will come in multitudes. 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 And the mountains will have been removed away, and they will have become as mirage. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Behold, they were not expecting to be called to account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And all things have We preserved on record. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
