He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
