The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Of what ask they? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water, 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And dense gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 They called Our revelations false with strong denial. 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
