The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 About which they have been differing? 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And have made (therein) a shinning lamp (sun). 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 And dense gardens. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Verily the Hell is an ambuscade: 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
