The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they differ? 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
