The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ About what are they asking one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 'Taste! We shall not increase you except in punishment' 30
