The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 No indeed; soon will they come to know; 4 Verily, verily they shall soon (come to) know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and gardens dense with follage. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains shall vanish, as if they were a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
