The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the (angels) who tear out (the souls of the wicked) with violence; 1 And who softly release the soul of the believer. 2 And by those who glide along (on errands of mercy), 3 Then press forward as in a race, 4 Then arrange to do (the Commands of their Lord), 5 Upon the day when the first blast shivers 6 Followed by oft-repeated (commotions): 7 Hearts, that Day, will tremble, 8 Their looks will be downcast. 9 (Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state 10 What! when we are rotten bones? 11 They say: “That will then be a return with a great loss!” 12 But it shall be only a single cry, 13 When, behold, they will be in the (full) awakening (to Judgment). 14 Have you received the story of Moses? 15 Lo! His Sustainer called out to him in the twice-hallowed valley: 16 Go to Firon, surely he has become inordinate. 17 and say [unto him,] 'Art thou desirous of attaining to purity? 18 and that I should guide thee to thy Lord, then thou shalt fear?"' 19 Then [Musa (Moses)] showed him the great sign (miracles). 20 But [Pharaoh] gave him the lie and rebelliously rejected [all guidance,] 21 Then he went back hastily. 22 Then he gathered (men) and called out. 23 Saying: "I am your lord, most high", 24 but God seized him and meted out to him the chastisement of both the next world and the present: 25 In this, behold, there is a lesson indeed for all who stand in awe [of God]. 26
