The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and placed therein a hot, shining lamp, 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 For the exorbitant a receptacle. 22 therein they shall abide for ages, 23 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 Recompense fitted! 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
