He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And he fears, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 On honourable pages. 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 olives, dates, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
