He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him you are distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
Almighty Allah's Truth.
