He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 noble and purified. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
