The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it covers the day, 1 and the day in splendour 2 and by that (Power) which created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will facilitate for him the easy end. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But save him who fears 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And have in his mind no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
