He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fearfully, 9 you ignore him. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Be cursed (the disbelieving) man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Not one he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 Olives and dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
True are the words of God the Almighty.
