He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 to a rich man, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and who has fear of God, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what thing did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Not one - he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
