He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 In honored books, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cleave the earth, cleaving (it) asunder, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
