He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 So you are after him! 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and clover, 28 and olives and palms, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
