He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 You pay full attention, 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 lofty and pure, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 to yield therein corn, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
