He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 you attend to him, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 And he fears, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Dust shall cover them 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
