He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 and fearfully, 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news (of Paradise). 39 whereas some faces will be covered with dust 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
