He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And We made corn grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 And dense gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
